Frequent KBA Feeder Misfeeds? Fault Diagnosis Helps You Quickly Locate the Problem

In daily production on KBA series presses, feeder misfeeds are among the most common problems encountered by press operators and maintenance personnel. These German-built machines offer a wide range of format sizes, advanced DriveTronic independent drive technology, and highly compatible automated configurations. If not addressed promptly, the consequences can range from compromised registration accuracy and print quality to extended downtime in severe cases.

I. Fault Symptoms

During the printing process, frequent double sheets, missed sheets, skewed sheet travel, or paper striking the front lays occur, leading to increased stoppage rates and unstable front-lay registration.

II. Cause Analysis

Insufficient vacuum in the separating and forwarding suction heads, or blocked/damaged air lines; improperly adjusted pile height and air blast nozzles, resulting in poor sheet separation; incorrect adjustment of the front, rear, left, and right side guides on the feeder, or an uneven pile; dirty or drifting sensitivity of the double-sheet detector (ultrasonic or mechanical type). Given the wide format range of these German KBA machines, the advanced DriveTronic independent drive technology, and the highly compatible automated configurations, priority should be given to checking key components and standard parameters during troubleshooting.

III. Troubleshooting Steps

Clean the air pump, air lines, and filters, then measure and restore suction-head vacuum levels. Re-set the separating and forwarding suction head heights and air volumes according to the paper basis weight. Use a feeler gauge to correct the pile height (approximately 3 sheets thick) and adjust the blast nozzle angle. Clean the double-sheet detector and recalibrate it; replace the sensing element if necessary.

IV. Preventive Measures

Clean the feeder air-line filters and suction heads every shift. Regularly lubricate the feeder drive cams and bearings. Recalibrate the feeding parameters whenever the paper basis weight is changed. The above methods also apply to models such as the Rapida 105, Rapida 106, Rapida 145, and Rapida 75. For practical operation, refer to the ErgoTronic console / QualiTronic inline inspection system and on-site conditions.
