The Preset Plus enhanced feeder on a used Heidelberg CD102 is the first gate for sheet-running stability. The 2007.1 wiring diagram and the 2002 parts catalog break it into seven blocks: suction head, suction-tape module, rotary valve, lateral blower, double-sheet detector, sheet-travel monitor and ionizing unit. Wear in any block becomes downtime and repair cost.
- The suction head and suction-tape module are the most wear-prone core. Focus on sucker rubber aging, tape tension and rotary-valve air distribution.
- Double-sheet detector B220 and sheet-travel monitor B248 are electronic safeguards; test them power-on for every printing unit.
- The non-stop pile needs checking of main/auxiliary motors, 0.5~2.5mm ZID speed-foot compensation and 236:1 lifting synchronization.
- The ionizing unit and lateral blower decide whether coated or thin stocks separate cleanly; missing or failed units are a discount item.
Suction head and suction-tape module
Check whether sucker rubbers are cracked or unevenly hardened. Verify that suction-tape module F4.020.026B has even tension and rotary valve F4.020.030B distributes air without whistling. Frequent double sheets at high pile height usually mean valve-to-head misalignment.
Air logic and electronic monitoring
The 2007.1 diagram lists the pneumatic pressure sensor and pressure switch-on as feeder start interlocks: low pressure prevents impression on. B220 and B248 are repeated per printing unit (+1 through +10 and +21/+22). Run the press slowly with different stock thicknesses and confirm B220 reports double sheets and B248 stops on missing sheets.
Non-stop pile system
The 1996 pile-control schematic gives the key figures: 48V DC lift motors, 12 min⁻¹ speed, 236:1 reduction ratio and a 0.5~2.5mm ZID speed-foot compensation range. Verify smooth main/auxiliary pile changeover and a perpendicular speed foot; jerky changeover indicates timing-belt or brake wear.
Conclusion: The value of a used CD102 feeder is not that it picks up sheets, but that air, electronics and mechanical synchronization stay reliable. Checking the suction head, rotary valve, B220, B248 and non-stop pile against these parameters will reduce hidden repair costs.
